Cordially I welcome you at the website of the department of Cardiothoracic Surgery of the Erasmus MC, Rotterdam. The department of Cardiothoracic Surgery provides the specialty of Cardiothoracic Surgery. In doing so, new knowledge is being developed as well as taught, as is being done throughout the Erasmus MC. Complying with the Erasmus MC, we state:

The department of Cardiothoracic Surgery of the Erasmus MC is an innovational department for high quality care, knowledge development and training in the field of cardiothoracic surgery.

Our core activities concern patient care, research and training. The department of Cardiothoracic Surgery in embedded in the Thoraxcentre, the scientific activities in COEUR (Cardiovasculaire Onderzoeksschool Erasmus University Rotterdam). Because the growing cardiothoracic scientific production does not always fit well in existing systems of registration and reviewing, the idea evolved to give an overview of the scientific activities of the department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the current site. Our research is aimed at direct and continuous improvement in patient care. The department of Cardiothoracic Surgery specifically focuses on:

Congenital heart disease (COEUR theme 5)

Atherosclerosis with aortic surgery and coronary disease (COEUR theme 4)

Heart valve disease (COEUR theme 4)

Cardiac failure with assist devices and cardiac transplantation (COEUR theme 4)

Pulmonary disease, in cooperation with ROTS, including lung transplantation (COEUR theme 4)

Cardiovascular epidemiology, using meta-analysis and microsimulation (COEUR theme 6).

The department of Cardiothoracic Surgery will at this site report on the yearly training activities as well as publish the annual surgical procedures report. We are open for further suggestions with regard to the content of the site. I hope you will find what you are looking for and that you will enjoy the matter.
